Design responsibility and calculation of steel and mixed roof and infill elements - Part 1 and 2

The roofing, infill and completion elements of a civil or industrial structure are now universally considered structural components subject to design on a par with the secondary and main structures to which they are connected.

The classification of roofing and curtain wall elements of buildings as a "structural part" implies not only the qualification of products and manufacturers but also the obligation to prepare static calculation reports on a par with load-bearing structures (secondary and main) that justify their use under design actions, not least fire resistance.

A complete calculation example is illustrated in the article.
