BIM for structural calculation

The logic of BIM tends to involve different designers (architectural, structural, plant engineering) by developing a synergistic process (interoperability) that allows its full potential to be exploited.

Despite this, the diffusion of BIM in Italy is practically concentrated in the architectural design sector for several reasons. The first is that historically software producers (practically all foreign) have favored this sector. The second is due to the lack of proposals from (Italian) software producers for BIM-compatible solutions. Finally, there remains the doubt that the full potential that BIM offers is not yet truly understood.

This review will cover the main aspects of BIM software for architectural and structural design, highlighting general issues.
